Music Gigs

Music Gigs” has become a catchall phrase used to define single professional engagements of jazz bands or rock musicians. The term first appeared as jazz slang in the U.S. in the early 20th century. Prior to that, the term “gig” was an American slang word that meant an occupation or a business event. Music Gigs as a term has grown in its use to mean most anything related especially to musical performances.

Music Gigs today are musical performance jobs. Individual musicians look for gigs; music groups perform gigs. Music Gigs can be single live performances in local theaters or coffee shops, or Music Gigs can be full blown concerts in major cities, or even enormous national or international events that are televised the world over. Music Gigs of the international sort are generally intended to raise funds to benefit a charitable organization or to support people devastated by a disaster, such as a tsunami or a tropical cyclone like Hurricane Katrina that hit New Orleans in 2005.

In another sense, Music Gigs are classified ads posted in job search venues by groups or bands looking for vocalists, lead guitarists, drummers, or bassists. Answering a gig ad will get a music artist a quick interview, which may result in an audition with the band.

Music Gigs are announced by bands and sponsors of events with flyers and posters, in magazines and newspaper ads, and on the Internet. Music Positive Radio offers this service. Click on our “Announcements” key to post your Music Gigs with us.
