Music Posters

Today, Music Posters are created to introduce and promote musical groups, to announce appearances, and to decorate walls and windows. Graphics artists abound who create and sell Music Posters lauding musicians and music artists of all kinds. Posters depicting every group and every vocalist that has a place in international, national, regional, and local music scenes are available for purchase in stores and on the Internet.

A music poster, or a poster of any kind, actually, is a large sheet of paper that is glued to or hangs on a wall, a window, or other surface. Music Posters generally are used as advertisements and announcements of scheduled appearances or performances. Other posters are used for propaganda or protests that communicate ideas, meetings, and concepts to the public. Music Posters are often used as framed decorative elements that liven up a room. Poster sizes tend to be 24 by 36 inches.

Music Posters did not appear until recent times. Early posters were mainly textual, their long history beginning with making citizens aware of governmental proclamations, lodging public protests, and with advertising the performances of stage productions, such as those of Shakespeare.

Music Posters did not come into being until the 20th century, and have evolved considerably from the early beginnings of poster art. Color lithography came into being in the 1890s, which provided a cheap method of printing posters in bright colors. Artists creating poster art of that time were Jules Chéret and, more notably, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, whose name has since remained well-know in art circles.

Music Posters followed posters that were used to advertise productions, carnivals, and circuses in centuries past. Many posters, Music Posters included, have significant artistic merit and have become quite popular. Some have become extremely collectible.

Regional and local music groups often place Music Posters to announce appearances and performances. More often, Music Posters will be ordered and supplied by promotion agencies for popular musical groups and pop music artists. Music Posters can be purchased from many stores and at music concerts.
