Recording Engineer

What does a recording engineer do? During a recording session, a recording engineer has the responsibility of operating the mixing board, the multitrack recorder and relevant recording equipment.

Often referred to as a technical specialist, a recording engineer makes the necessary evaluation and adjustments to microphone placement on specific instruments so that recording is completed with expert precision.

Recording engineers then record the musician’s performance track by track. Once all tracks have been recorded, the recording engineer reviews them to check the quality of the recording.

Once the recording has been reviewed, the recording engineer confers with the artist and producer to make any necessary modifications to the performance itself, or to the control panel to achieve the desired results; upon which the recording engineer mixes all tracks into two tracks for the final master.

In general, a recording engineer has tremendous responsibility in the recording and actual creation of the master cut of a song recording; so it is of utmost importance that the candidate has plenty of experience, education and training to successfully attain the best sounding master.

While this is a general overview about recording engineers, if you would like to contribute your own article or expertise about this particular topic, feel free to do so at Media Positive Radio today.
