A little tidbit about Ethnic Music... What is Ethnic music? Interchangeable with folk music, ethnic music is music created by and of the people of a respective region. An original venue of expressing ways of life; Ethnic music is handed down from one generation to the next. Ethnic music may be compiled of ballads, and is also considered a form of world music as well. Ethnic music may be comprised of dance, vocal and lyrical music that narrate. Unlike mainstream instrumental music, Ethnic music is often accompanied by vocals that combine narrative verse such as epic poetry, or stories that tell about life in general. In addition, Ethnic music usually incorporates instruments respective to region or nation. Often performed for nonprofit, ethnic music is music " of the people." Most often anonymous in nature, Ethnic music sticks to its traditional roots. Sociologically, Ethnic music plays an important role in linking sounds to different nations, and gives the listener an overall sense of specific nationalities' causes, hopes, dreams and general culture. Ethnic music recording artists, Bob Dylan and Simon and Garfunkel are known for their beautiful folk songs, as are The Mamas and the Papas, and The Byrds. Because it is a form of world style, ethnic music may include a large base of Irish Traditional and Scottish Traditional music, also known as Celtic music. Types of ethnic music include: American, Cretan folk and Serbian folk music; Ballads; Christmas Carols and Hymns.
