A little tidbit about Indies Music... What is Indie Music? An independent genre, indie music is comprised of indie music recording artists whose melodies may reflect any number of genres. Indie music is characterized by freedom from current culture and pop music. Created apart from mainstream influence, Indie music is most often disassociated with major recording labels. Artists who consider their music to be Indie music usually maintain their recording career with a self-service attitude, with the ability to work solo without corporate influence. Going against the grain of mainstream music, indie music artists are sometimes known as "hipsters" or "indie kids." Though Indie music can be divided into several subcategories, it is commonly heaped into two classes: Indie Rock and Indie Pop. Some indie music falls into the category of "electronic indie" or "indietronic" music. This indie music is a combination of electronic and indie rock music. In more recent news, Indie music recording artist, Caribou, won the best alternative recording artist for his indie music album titled, "The Milk of Human Kindness" at the Hamilton Music Awards. Indie music artists are usually disassociated with major recording labels, and often must fund their own marketing events and tours. Famed R.E.M., and the B-52's began their music careers as indie music recording artists.
