Latin Music, also known as "Latin American Music," is influenced from a collage of countries including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Chile, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela; and even Spain. While Latin music roots come from African and American traditions, an improvisation of American Jazz music and Bossa Nova, Latin music composer, Antonio Carlos Jobim during the late 1950s, recreated Latin music. His influence on Latin music spread throughout the world. In addition to several ethnic musical instruments, Latin music is defined by its dance rhythm and beat. Dances that evolved from and have been popularized by Latin music include the Mariachi, Meringue, Tango, Salsa, Samba, Rumba and the Mambo (to name just a few). Latin music recording artists, Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias and Ricky Martin continue to contribute their fine talents to the Latin music industry today. Prior to her death in 1995, popular Latin music recording artist, "Selena" won a Grammy for "Best Mexican-American" album; and despite astonishing events, still managed to complete her Latin music "Crossover Album," dubbed, "Dreaming of You."
