Music Venues

Music venues are places where live music is performed. Big name band concerts fill the really large music venues – arenas, stadiums, theaters, and concert halls – but there are a lot of smaller live music venues that welcome musicians willing to exhibit their talents.

Night clubs, dance clubs, bars, and restaurants provide various styles of music venues and are great places for newbies to the music scene to they get their feet wet and oldies to keep their skills tuned. Some big names have started their careers in music venues in small town bars before moving into clubs and onto stages in larger towns and cities all over the North American continent.

Finding live music venues in small and large cities in the U.S. and Canada is not difficult. Opportunities abound for performers of music of all kinds across the continental map. Most nights of the week, music lovers choose their favorite spots to listen to rock, blues, jazz, pop, folk, acoustic, country, rap, hip hop, bluegrass, R&B, classical, Texas, Christian, big band, cabaret, polka, rockabilly, reggae, Latin pop, Tejano, Mexican, Cajun, zydeco, Irish, oldies, Americana, punk, alternative, electronic dance, Columbian, Dixieland, and even flamenco makes it to agendas somewhere in the U.S.

Nashville lists 38 well-established live music venues, and Chicago posts no less than a hundred. On the west coast, Portland lists several and Seattle claims to have the best live music in 25 of its better food and drink establishments, with additional clubs, bars, and dance halls that provide live music of various kinds. Montreal and Vancouver both list a number of live music venues.

Texas is a haven for live music and a great place to get started with various genres of music. The Waco area, including Temple and Killeen, has at least 40 live music venues. Houston lists double that number, and the Dallas-Fort Worth area claims nearly 200 live music venues.

Music venues in the Greater Austin area number over 60, where some good beats can be found in clubs, bars, dance halls, and restaurants on most weekday night and any weekend nights. In addition, Austin adds to its live music venues noteworthy concert halls and art centers, where live concerts are offered to the public on a regular basis. Austin became known for its country and blues music, but today’s music scene in Austin has grown more diverse with its growing population.

Indeed, the population growth resulting from immigration continues to enrich the cultural hodgepodge of music in America and Canada and opens new music venues for musicians of all types. Whatever is a musician’s particular talent or specialty, there is a venue available somewhere for its full appreciation.
