| RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) The RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) is a trade group organized to represent the recording industry in the United States. The RIAA aims to promote a safe haven for creativity, financial, and legal issues of its members, who manufacture and distribute music products. RIAA protects intellectual property rights and First Amendment rights of members, conducts research, and oversees regulations and policies and state and federal laws that affect the music industry. The RIAA supports members by providing leadership and defending freedom of speech at state and federal levels of government, providing copyright protection to artists and record companies, fostering a positive environment for artistic creativity and industry distribution of music, and providing information to the public regarding issues that affect the recording industry its members. A number of members of the RIAA are entrepreneurs who individually support youth programs in education and music, educational institutions, tours, and numerous charities locally and nationally with their finances and time. RIAA members also share their views and experiences for the benefit of others through articles and interviews that are on their website, which is offered to Internet readers. RIAA provides information and services to member record companies in the United States. Additionally, The Recording Industry Association of America certifies Gold®, Platinum®, Multi-Platinum™, and Diamond® sales awards. The RIAA also recently initiated a new trademark, Los Premios De Oro y Platino™, which presents awards for Latin music sales. This article provides an overview of RIAA.
