| Weight Loss Losing the battle of the bulge? Weight loss may prove to be a difficult task; however, with the right guidance and lifestyle modifications, it may be easier than one thinks. Aside from "diet" and "exercise," as we all already know, weight loss can be achieved by re-training ourselves on how and what to eat, as well as accepting exercise as a vital routine in our daily life (no different than brushing our teeth or eating). One of the biggest misconceptions of attaining weight loss, is that one has to eat less. While this may be true in some cases, many individuals retain unnecessary fluids and body fat because they inadvertantly slow metabolisms by not eating properly or not enough. Small meals throughout the course of a day have shown evidence of boosting metabolism; and increasing weight loss potential. Cutting back on sugars (carbohydrates), starches (bread, cakes, etc.) are a must when trying to achieve a reasonable amount of weight loss. Rich, green veggies (broccoli, spinach, endive, collard greens) are not only loaded with nutrients and vitamins, but are also wonderful sources of fiber and aid in weight loss. Substitution is another way to look at dietary intakes. Often, when individuals go on "diets," they commonly find themselves craving more of what they should not have. Liken to a "panic overdrive," persons find themselves being "deprived" of certain foods. Instead of "depriving" one self, individuals should seek other "comfort foods" to which they've grown accustomed. Excellent substitutions may include lowfat yogurt, fresh fruit, angel food cake (in moderation), celery sticks and other raw vegetables. There are many "diets" circulating on the social market today; however, not all diets are applicable to all individuals. Each person has his own chemical and biological makeup. So if the "Atkins Diet" works for 10 people, it may not work for one. To find your niche for weight loss, you must find the right lifestyle change that works for you. It is important to point out, too, that weight gain doesn't happen overnight, neither does weight loss. Persistance is key. Remember, humans are psychological beings. Our approach to life and how we live it can effectively modify our overall outlook on not only efficient weight loss, but how to achieve a healthier, happier life in general.
